Excellent ! Nice one codhead

Connell(once again) is worth his weight in gold on Burnsys comments - "really impressive", "electric", "could have had 8 !"

What a signing this is proving to be !

:o :o Bugger it looks as if I've missed very good game I hope that the young keeper did well because IMHO he is going to the top good score line.
Promised Rosa I would take her out for meal so Liza and Maranda took my car with aload more wish the young lads well as I belive the weather was lousy over there.
The new striker sounds very good and the trialists linked up well I belive So bye Mr Conlon we don't need you.UTM  :D  :D :

Just how I feel too....

Yeah cleefish I'm starting to think Connell might be worth the entrance fee alone on what I've seen, gutted I missed him again tonight.

to say we played lincoln off the park is no exaggeration.

peet made a great save, but looked really nervy on crosses

samuels was a shorter more direct running version of bore. class, but do we need another righback?

bradley wood is going to be a little legend, throwing himself into tackle after tackle. not a left back, but played in his right position will be really good.

kempson is mark lever, but with less class on the ball!!

garner looks comfortable on the ball, but seemed to misjudge every header

cummins looked really classy as a play maker, didnt get forward much, reminded me of sweeney but with more running.

leary looked like a different player, comfortable on the ball, "bursting" forward.

(we left some massive holes in midfield though, need to tighten that up.)

bore was bore, nothing more needs saying, apart from he almost acted like a deep striker at times.

robert eagle, didnt really take anybody on but more than good enough for a left midfielder. really comfortable on the ball, didnt really get tackled, almost another playmaker.

connell was awesome.

coulson is definately better as a striker than a winger.

(only thing with those two up front and kempson at centre back, is we are pretty much guaranteed to lose the ball every time kempson is passed to.)

fuller looked fuller of confidence when he came on, probably better in the hole behind the two strikers than a winger, and a bit lightweight for the rough and tumble of the conference, but once he gets used to the physicality he will be a star.

corner and dixon didnt really do much when they came on.

Nice one PSU
Hey you should started another thread. And where's your match ratings ? ;)

Can I ask a few(or maybe a lot of) questions ?

-Was anyone at fault for the 2 goals we conceded ?
-You said "we left some massive holes in midfield" - was the shape of the team and the back 4 looking ragged or not ?
-When you say Wood is not a left back, did it show tonight or are you just stating fact ?
-Could Samuel be a right midfielder too like Bore?
-Was Bore's decision making better tonight playing right midfield ?
-Know it's hard to judge but could Samuel be even better than Bore might be?

That'll keep you going for a while ;)

Cheers mate and keep up the good work.

My match ratings.

Peet - 5 - Dodgy on crosses, but did make 2 good saves.

Wood - 7 - Playing out of position at left back. Got in some very good tackles. Did not venture forwards quite as much as he has done in the past. Did not look out of place. One excellent goal line clearance.
Kempson - 7 - Looked ok. Was better in the second half. A threat from corners.
Garner - 7 - I thought he did very well at times. Passed the ball ok. Sometimes played it too long. Good in the air. Took his goal well
Samuels - 8 - Did very well at right back. Linked well with Bore. Very quick, and delivered some excellent crosses into the area.

Eagle - 7 - Did ok, without doing anything special. Corners were better than normal for us :)
Leary - 7 - Seems a much better player this season already. Wonder why? Composed on the ball, even made some strong runs forward!
Cummins - 7 - The best I have seen from him so far. Passed the ball very well at times. The best move of the game ended when Cummins slotted the ball into the net :)
Bore - 7 - Another good performance. Linked well with Samuels, and covered well when Samuels went forward. Took his goal well. Linked well with Connell and Coulson.

Coulson - 7 - Linked very well with Connell, and the midfielders. Some excellent passing. Probably better as a forward than a winger.
Connell - 9 - MOM Another very good performance. Some of his little flicks failed to work. Took shots when passing might have given a better shooting opportunity, but his overall play was superb again. Good header for his goal.

Fuller - 6 - A couple of good forays down the wing.
Dixon - 5 - Never posed a threat
Corner - 5 - Never posed a threat

In the first 45 minutes we played some excellent football. The second half was a bit drab in comparison, but I think that was to be expected after Connell, then Bore and Coulson were substitued. Very impressed with Samuels, not so much with Eagle (Although probably a little better than Hegarty).

I came away from the game with more belief that we have a chance of bouncing straight back up. :)

:D  Liza told me when she came home that the team as played that good that we now should not be bothered about back ups because with most of the first team injured this lot of lads did superb last night she said credit must out to young keeper for his display.
And Leary looks a vastly improved player I put that down to the fact he now has far better player around him it was great night to be able to put one over on my lincoln mates 2 went with Liza and Maranda to the match and said Imp's did not deserve to win they went with the ider it would be a walk over.UTM

Good result and performance by the sound of it.

However, how strong was the Lincoln side? Some on their forum seem to think it was mostly a youth side.... although he did sound a bitter imp...

Just shows how bad Grimsby have fallen. They, like ourselves and Scunny, have never really taken the county cup seriously, always played the reserves. Now they are non-league they field their strongest team possible to 'get one over us' and their fans have brought in to it with 1500 of them being there! Whilst it was built up in their press as a big game our press told us it would be an entire youth team for the Imps. I also remember when they only brought 9 or 10 here a couple of years back but they seem to have to have forgotton. Personally I can't believe any Imps travelled last night for a game in the Lincs cup! They call us absolutely disgraceful I think they're absolutely deluded!

The full thread is here if you are interested in how the Imps took defeat.
